Sorry, things have been busy the past week. As you can see, I’ve changed the theme of my blog. This one is much nicer and easier on the eyes (it’s a lot more refined). New drawings will come soon.
Well, yesterday I attended the Sheridan Animation Industry Day. Industry representatives spent the day viewing graduate films from the Computer Animation and the Classical Animation programs; and were hoping to scoop up some fresh talent. This was my second year in attendance.
It was refreshing to see how far along the students have come; not just in the use of existing technology, but in skill. They are very fortunate to have the resources of today. I guess every predecessor will say that about his/her successors. Regardless, it was also an inspiration to see the quality of work and talent coming out of Sheridan.
I was also there to speak as a member of a panel of Sheridan Alumni. I hope the advice and experiences we shared with the graduating students will help get them off to a good start. Our industry (much like every other) has suffered over the past couple of years. It seems to me that the markets are stabilizing and the surviving companies are too. We can only hope the recovery is a long lasting one. This new influx of workers have good opportunities to look forward to (unlike my graduating year, when the business was at the tail end of a dark age).
Congrats to the class of 2010!
